Wow! What an amazing adventure we just got back from, the pictures say it all. Amazing weather, in good company, we caught plenty of fish and many personal bests. Two of our guests also joined the 20 pound club, with this latest social trip living up to our guests expectations on and off the water. We had one of our biggest groups yet attend and so many of them are already keen to register for our next trip.
Our trips are the best opportunity for Jetskifisho's to learn more about the sport, with the added opportunity being able to refine fishing techniques. Knowing where to find the fish and what baits are working best on the day is a massive head start to catching the big one. This trip had the crew learning quickly where the fish were holding and didn't take long to see the excitement from catching big fish. Overall the Gulp White Glow Grubs and the New Penny colour baits worked best for the highest catch rate and some of the baits are only available exclusive at the Jetskifishing Store.

These next few months we see the fish in closer to home and now is the time to take advantage while using quality electronics.
Some basic tips before your fishing, prepare yourself with some local knowledge on to which general area people have been catching. This will help you find the fish faster, while hunting with your sounder in areas you would expect the fish to be feeding. A big attraction with Jetskifishing is the quick time for our fishing sessions and more reason to find the fish first with your sounder. Fishing is more successful when having confidence on where to direct your soft bait and at what depth. I can assure you, even with my 10 years soft baiting off a ski, if fishing without sonar charts on an accurate fish finder, I wouldn't achieve as an effective catch rate.
In my experience, six of my 20 pound plus fish caught on soft baits, have all hit the soft bait high up in the water column. This is the area as the bait sinks once being cast away from the ski, typically the big fish are coming up to attack the soft bait as it is being twitched via my rod tip and the fish will strike in the upper 10 metres of depth. You may laugh, but my fishing method is pretty much common sense, I visualise from a Snappers perspective on how, where and what they are feeding on. Once locating the fish at the target area, this will give me a head start to what bait selection will work best, and which size/weight jig head for the fish I am targeting.
If you are still struggling to catch fish, go back to basics, sometimes it is as simple as knots and gear preparation being the reason your bait presentation is not enticing the fish. I am happy to assess your own fishing gear and make any recommendations on solutions I offer to suit your budget. Once you are catching on regular outings, you can start enjoying the sport to its full potential.
On the other side of it, rigged right with the fishing is red hot, the fish will pretty much hit the bait any how its presented! Once we found the fish on the sounder, the rest was easy, so much that Cooper only needed to get the bait to the bottom and the fish did the rest!
I have just got back from an epic adventure on our Goes Wild Coromandel social trip. It was another amazing trip at one of our best Jetskifishing locations in the country. Our group included many new faces to the sport and their feedback included being very impressed with the venue, loved the food and enjoyed learning so much about the sport from other anglers. To top off the trip, there was four 20 pound Snapper caught by our guests and plenty of personal bests achieved by those learning more about the sport.

Once a year I take my youngest son Cooper on a road trip, he always looks forward to it and we enjoy some pretty special moments together. This adventure was another level of excitement, Cooper landed a few Kingfish through mechanical jigging and managed to hook in to some seriously awesome Snapper.
Cooper's real goal was a big Snapper and at 12 years old, his enthusiasm is right up there with aspirations of a 20 pounder! What I thought was unrealistic for an angler his size, he soon showed me, it probably isn't far off him achieving. These father and son adventures are priceless, not only did Cooper get his new PB, I nudged mine a little closer to my 25 pounder on a soft bait.
Wasn't long and I had a couple of good sized eating Snapper in the Ultimate Rod Holder chilly bin.
Another of the many things I do while fishing and often take for granted that not everyone does, is I continually analyze structure and fish sign on my sounder, while watching my bait in the water for anything following it on the wind up and checking the surrounding area for any fish/bird life. This is where the scanning paid off, about 1 km away I could see what I thought was white caps building on the sea towards Coromandel. Soon after that I spotted a few birds in the distance, the adrenaline kicked in as I started visualising a monster work up!

We took advantage of the shelter within the Hauraki Gulf Islands, so we could still enjoy the fishing, if the weekends stormy weather approached faster than forecasted.
A short drive in the car from our home in East Auckland to the Kawakawa Bay, paid ramp facilities. This ramp always has plenty of parking and also has pontoons to dock your ski while you park the car.
Once on the water we headed out around the back of the islands, then out wide to see if there was any work-up activity. With the water being so flat, we decided to cruise over to the Coromandel. Fishing was slow, as we were fishing close to slack water, so decided to make the ride back closer to Waiheke.
On the way back, the work-up activity was building, with Dolphins hunting in packs and 1000's of Gannets working a large area. We couldn't resist dropping our lines, but after only catching small Snapper, we soon ran out of patience and headed in to an area better suited for 12 year old, Cooper's fishing skills.
You have to love winter fishing, as expected better sized fish were closer to home in shallower water. Using the Raymarine E7, we could see where the fish were holding. This was the type of fishing when you could see the fish on the display and could also predict you were going to catch.
The smaller baits worked best, yet still catching fish up to 50cm. This was an amazing session, another hectic father and son session when fishing became catching. For those struggling with soft baiting, don't give up! Softbait fishing is rewarding and sporting, I'm happy to assess your gear so you are assured you are rigged correctly and can enjoy the fun like we do.

Cooper enjoyed the fishing so much, that he got to a stage with the Igloo chilly bin filling nicely, he only wanted to catch and release. Great to see, fishing for the future awareness has rubbed off in him, he wants to come back to his spot another day and catch fish for the dinner table. The classic was when he told me "no more sharing our go to spots with other people Dad"
We headed back to the ramp with smooth sea, it was another dream session on the water appreciating how lucky we are in New Zealand.

One of the many attractions to the venue for our 'Goes Wild Jetskifishing Experiences' is that it is nestled at the tip of the Coromandel Ranges and has the choice to fish either side of the peninsula. This means that with most wind directions, we can still get out on the water regardless of weather.
These Jetskifishing experiences are for three nights, gives plenty of time for us to all wind down and enjoy a holiday. Over the four days fishing, anglers learn more about the fishery, while fishing with others also increases their sea confidence.
Once again, this trip did not disappoint on the 'Monster' Snapper expectations, including some great sized fish caught very close to our launching base. This 70cm Snapper caught in 10 metres of water, only 500 metres from where we launched!

This isn't their first trip away with us, they had enjoyed the previous adventures so much, they have now become regulars!
